Chaburah Spotlight: Shlomit Bernstein
Shlomit Bernstein is from Potomac, MD and went to high school at Berman Hebrew Academy. She just finished two amazing years at Darchei Binah Seminary where she had the opportunity of being a madricha. This coming year she is planning on studying Computer Science at Machon Tal in Jerusalem. This is Shlomit’s first summer in Michlelet and has been having an amazing time going on trips and learning with the girls! Her Chaburah is on the topic of Shabbos, where the girls explore the depths and meaning behind the important and special day. The girls walk out with a deeper understanding of an aspect of Shabbos in order to utilize the day better and forge a stronger relationship with each other, themselves and the Creator. Topics they explore include, what is rest? What is the bracha of Shabbos? How do we connect to the bracha? What is the idea behind candle lighting? What is Shamor and Zachor on a practical level? Why does Shabbos require preparation? And so much more!
In what ways do you disconnect and reconnect on Shabbos?
Orli – I disconnect by turning off technology and preparing myself for shabbos and I connect by spending time with friends.
Payton- Shabbos is my break away from my busy daily routine, a day of rest to embrace and elevate my connection to HaShem through studying Torah topics and taking a break from my hectic week.
Rachel – Turning off electronics and not studying secular subjects helps me disconnect on shabbat but i feel more connected because I spend more time with family and friends, also getting the opportunity to learn Torah.
Meira – I try to disconnect from the real world by turning off my phone and only talking about shabbos and I reconnect to Hashem by taking some time to learn and grow.
Vered – I disconnect from the stresses of school and life in order to better connect with my family and friends.
Color War: An Unlikely Day of Achdut
Today was a full day of color war! Every girl had the opportunity to shine and explore her own talents like singing, video editing and acting, dancing, and sports. After a close game, the blue team won. Although the program was split into two team, through the activities of the day we have become one close family.
